Young Guns Freestyle Camp in Denmark

Nick Jacobsen will be at the annual Young Gun Academy at Lynæs Surfcenter in Denmark 28th of June to 2nd of July 2015.  He will be teaching tips and tricks with the coolest kite girl in Denmark, Therese Taabbel.

Nick started his own career at the very shoreline of Lynæs. He says "it's the perfect spot for learning freestyle tricks.  Shallow water, a good chance of wind and the best burgers in town! It's an ideal spot for a social kite camp!"

The camp is designed to prepare the next kitesurfing generation to become successful athletes in the modern world. "A profetional kitesurfer may be top ranked in the PKRA due to his or her skills, but that’s only the half story of reaching the top - Nick”.

Nick and Therese may not be top ranked in the PKRA, but they are definitely some of the best at promoting themselves, getting sponsor deals and gather followers on the social media!

Like most kite camps, the Young Gun Academy will teach the aspiring athletes how to rip when the wind is pumping. The more unusual lessons will be behind the desk, learning the art of the action photo by official Neil Pryde photographer; Jill Christina. She will teach how to shoot and edit action photos, but most important, she will be teaching how to behave and get followers on Instagram and Facebook. “the most important thing about posting photos and videos on Instagram, is posting something people want to watch! - Christina”

Photos are one thing, video is another, and therefore the attenders will be divided into movie groups, whom will each be given a GoPro for capturing the action during the week. But what is a camera if you don’t know how to use it and afterwards edit it into a proper kitesurfing movie? – nothing. During the week the attenders will have lectures in both camera set-up and how to make a nice short-cut worth watching!

Both Nick and Therese are extremely active on the social media, and they both explain the great importance of the media if you want to have sponsors to support your career. So with the kitesurfing talent in place and the skills of being able to photograph and expose it, the young talents will be ready for the last but most important task of creating a career as a professional kitesurfer; sponsors. Nick and Therese will be telling their own stories and experiences with this part, answering questions such as: what do a sponsor want in return? What is a good gear deal? Who is good to know? What competitions are important? etc.

All these elements of a kite camp will hopefully generate a team of young talented kitesurfers, whom will be well represented in the future competitions!

The co-founders of Lynæs Surfcenter, Jeppe Ingversen and Johan Ingversen have a great part in the Young Gun Academy and explain their enthusiasm in the project “We have had the idea with Nick for a long time and now he’s on the Cabrinha Team, it is the perfect timing for bringing the project to surface!”. Jeppe attended in a similar camp, just ten years back. He explains how the best part of these kind of kite camps, is the social life and the friendships you make: “I have been traveling with a kitebag quite a lot the last years and every time I go, I travel with some of the very same people I spent a single week with ten years ago – that’s friendship for life!”. Moreover Johan explains the advantage of making friends across the country when attending national competitions.

Nick, Therese, Jeppe and Johan are looking very much forward to this week and hope to see a lot of talented kids with an urge to go pro!

Liam Whaley rocked the PKRA world tour

Congratulations Liam Whaley on a job well done.

Whaley takes the number two position on the PKRA world tour for 2014.

Whaley says "The season has finally come to an end. It's been an amazing experience competing all around the world with a great group of riders and friends. I just want to thank every person that helped make this year such a success and that helped make the life that I live possible. Thank you!"

I was born in Ibiza a small Island off the coast of Spain and I and learned to kite there. Ibiza was not the most ideal place to practice so me and my dad would go to Brazil, Cumbuco every year. I started to show more interest in the sport as I progressed and at the age of 13 my dads business took us to Tarifa Spain where the kiting was very good.

From that day on I was able to ride every day with the best riders like Gisela Pulido and Alex Pastor.  I trained very hard and Cabrinha came up with an international sponsorship deal.  I was very happy because I knew this would give me the opportunity to become part of one of the biggest kiteboarding brands in the industry and the whole tour!  I ended up becoming Spanish and European Junior Champion, from that moment on I knew that I had enough level to compete on the PKRA WORLD TOUR with the most talented people at this sport.

Cabrinha kites are now undefeated in 9 consecutive kite speed regattas!

"The 10m Velocity continues to perform.......over 49kts vmax/ 48.4kts average 250m on a raceboard with the 10m proto in 20kts average wind speed with gusts to 28." says Rob Douglas.
